Scotch Files: Speechless

As many of you can derive, I am a pretty opinionated person. I especially spend a lot of time on the roles idiots play in our society. Today, I think I may have read one of the most idiotic things I can imagine. It has kind of left me speechless. I am sitting here trying to compose the words for this blog, but I am left with "WHAT THE FUCK?" Seriously, there is no other way to describe it. And that is taking into consideration to never underestimate the depths of stupidity and idiocy.

You may or may not be aware of this but, Ken Lay, one of the people behind the implosion of Enron was laid to "rest" (meaning, I hope the dude is burning in hell) today. The ceremonies took place in Houston, the former home on Enron. The place where all the people that lost their jobs and futures due to the accounting fraud probably still live.

Getting to the point, Rev. Bill Lawson, a prominent figure in Houston religious circles, was enlightened enough to say that Lay was a "victim of a lynching." Read it again if you think your eyes are deceiving you - A "victim of a lynching!" But the good Rev. did not stop there. He also commented that Lay and all of his trials and tribulations were equal to the plight that Martin Luther King faced in the 60s. See why I was dropping the F-bomb earlier? And as much as I would like to say that the last statement was the worst part of it, there is one more piece to the puzzle that I find infuriating- Rev. Bill is black!

Let's recap:
Ken Lay unjustifiably villanized. CHECK!
Ken Lay = MLK. CHECK!

I know the history we learned in school was tainted, but this has to be the most shocking development in history since Columbus "discovered" a place where people were already living. MLK was stealing Rosa Park's pension and secretly charging folks millions of dollars for the right to march with him against Mr. Jim Crow. Man, thank GOD I found this out. I definitely have to stop celebrating his day in January. And I suggest anyone reading this do the same. We have all been bambozzled, we have been run amuck. I swear Plymouth Rock just landed on my forehead. MLK was not marching AGAINST hypocrisy, he was actually for it. That has to be the ultimate 52 fake-out. Hell maybe even 53.

I know the previous paragraph will be hard for you to swallow, but it must be true cause that is the only way anyone could align Ken Lay with MLK. Because Ken Lay is definitely the guy who claimed under sworn testimony that he had no idea what was going on in the company that he founded. Even though whistle-blower, Sherron Watkins alerted him to the problem after then-CEO Jeffrey Skilling suddenly departed the company.

Actually having read the last paragraph over again, I can see how Rev. Bill might come to the conclusions he did- both of these men are dellusional. It's obvious to me now. Nonetheless, I did some research on good ole Bill and found that he has lived in Houston since the 50s. So you would think that a black man who lived in the south through some of the worst times in this country's history would have a full grasp of the MLK legacy. Especially considering his bio clearly states,

Since the church was born and lived its infant years during the Civil Rights Movement, Lawson has been deeply involved in advocacy activities for African Americans, for Hispanics, for women, and for the poor.

So how again do you align these two people? And that does not discount the rumors of MLK's alleged affairs. I am a believer that he probably did. But I also realize that it isn't enough to ruin the great work and legacy he did and left behind.

When I look at Lay, all I see is a greedy man who ruined the countless lives of Enron employees and investors. The people who's family life depended on their pay, 401K and re-investments (via stock purchase) in the company vanished while Lay and numerous other top officials and auditors made millions. All while cooking the books.

And just like the collapse of Enron, his body did the same thing last week. Some people even tried to paint the "his heart simply failed," picture as if he died because his heart was broken over the whole incident. Then you see reports of how this guy was out vacationing while he was waiting to be sentenced. He doesn't deserve sympathy, he deserved to live so that he could pay for the shit he did. I wouldn't be surprised if he was reading a Machiavelli book as he relaxed.

But back to the good Rev. You sir, are an idiot! Maybe the Lays donated (READ: paid) you and your church a handsome sum of money for your words. Maybe you really feel the guy was villified for no reason. Maybe the fact that Lay was a preacher's son gave him a pass with you. Whatever the case may be, you should probably be very thankful if nothing happens to you. GOD Bless, you'll probably need it!

On another topic: I actually wouldn't be surprised if you were one of those black preachers who fell for the Bush "Faith Based Iniatives" okeedoke.
